enigma: conversations in painting

Enigma is the second part of an exhibition series, informed by ongoing studio conversations between nine contemporary painters.
The title is based on the concept of ‘Enigma’ discussed by Philip Guston and Clark Coolidge in I Paint What I Want to See. Guston described the enigma in painting as something you’ve never seen before, but somehow recognise.
